"In the earlier part of this year, my daughter, Beth, introduced me to Salty Sidewalks. At first, I told her I couldn't do this because I'm not an artist. But, she assured me that being a great artist was not necessary. So, she took me to a local craft store, bought the necessary art items, went home and taught me about using water colors, etc. It was so much fun and I soon realized that even I could create something to share with others. And over the next few months the wheels began turning!
My full-time job at our church is working with senior adults. So, we began having Salty Sidewalk workshops once per month. Instead of "quilting bees", like ladies have had in the past, we have Salty! We started with 5 or so ladies and now we have a group of about 12-13, and growing! Our church provides all our materials and people donate items and also give financial gifts to purchase needed materials! Our goals for the future are to put together "goody bags" for Gleaning For the World", Samaritans Purse", our church mission groups, etc. They would contain one of our tissue covers, bookmark, hand sanitizer, toothpaste, toothbrush, etc. God even brought a Liberty student our way who is majoring in art and helping make bookmarks as part of her required Christian service! She is also translating our "cards" into Spanish, Arabic, etc! We are excited to watch the Lord provide and open doors for this wonderful evangelistic outreach! Let me encourage all of you to take part in this blessed opportunity! Only heaven will reveal the impact it is having!" ~Joann~ "Hello my dear friends!!! I am on a mission to seek some help from my fellow friends. I am helping a lady I work with who also works with the homeless! I have been trying to give out as many salt leaks as possible to those people. She has a small meeting every week with a group of homeless to help them learn more about God! I gave a few people salt leaks a few weeks ago and now more people are asking for them to pass on to other homeless. Ones that can't make it to the meetings. I however can't do this alone. I was wondering if anyone here would be willing to help with salt leaks so that I can reach the homeless in my hometown. I have tried keeping up with the "demand" but it's impossible. Last week I gave out around 55 salt leaks.... I just need help and these people need a reminder that God is great. I've heard so many sad horrible stories. If possible would you be willing to send me some salt leaks so that I can pass these on to my community." If you're interested you can....email Lisa for an address to send leaks to: [email protected] |
It is always such a great reminder to me when I receive a salt leak of what a difference they can make! To be on the receiving end is such a tremendous blessing and encouragement. I may be having a totally lousy day, and the salt leaks brighten it. I may be discouraged, get my mail, and feel totally uplifted. Salt leaks can be life changers! I know that when we leave salt leaks for people, not everyone will appreciate them, but there are surely people who are touched by those acts of kindness and can feel God's love through them.
I want to share a God story with you. Yesterday I received an email stating that a missionary our church supports has been in the US. While he has been here his family's home was broken into and his wife beaten. The offenders were looking for the pastor to kill him. They came with machetes and guns. They tied his wife and beat her and hid the kids under blankets on the bed as they prepared to rape her. One of the men stopped that action from happening since the kids were there. (Praise God right?) Well, the missionary came last night to speak to us and I knew I needed to bring him a salt leak. As I was preparing it, the Lord led me to this leak for them. At first I thought it was a little silly since it was very girlie. But as he was telling us about what happened, he said his wife kept remembering Psalm 91:4 "He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings you may seek refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark." Coincidence? Nope. This is just what God had for her. I love how our ministry is Spirit led and if we are obedient we will be living out His work, His encouragement, His will. Carry on my friends! Be encouraged and encourage someone else today! And BTW, when the missionary saw it, he said they will be framing it and putting it up in their house. |
